The AD8362 is a true rms response power detector with a measurement range of 65dB. It is mainly used in various high-frequency communication systems and instruments that require an accurate response to signal power. The fluctuating output can be filtered and compared with the output of an identical squarer. The input of the squarer is a fixed DC voltage applied to the VTGT pin, usually the accurate 1.25 V reference voltage provided on the VREF pin.
When used as a power measurement device, VOUT and VSET overlap. In this way, the output is proportional to the logarithm of the input root mean square value. In other words, the reading will be displayed directly in dB, and it can be easily adjusted by the ratio of 1V or 50mV / dB every 10 times.
When a logic high level is applied to the PWDN pin, the AD8362 enters power-saving mode with a power consumption of 1.3mW. At 25 ° C, it can be powered up to a nominal operating current of 20mA in approximately 20μs.
Precautions for using the module
(1) The maximum input power of the detector module is + 15dBm. The dynamic range of the detector is 70dB, linear output.
(2) The module has no reverse connection and no current limiting protection. When using the module, be careful not to reverse the connection, otherwise the chip or module will be easily damaged.
(3) The module is a low-power module, and the power supply does not exceed 5.5V.
(4) Since the module is a high-precision device, in order to avoid unnecessary interference, it is recommended to use a linear power supply.
(5) It is recommended to use the SMA interface for the input signal. Poor contact or poor quality wires may cause signal attenuation or excessive noise, making the measurement inaccurate.
(6) The response and dynamic range of the detector module at different frequencies will be different, and there are differences between different modules, which is normal and not a problem of the module
Frequently asked questions
Q: Is there no response when measuring pulse power? The output is a straight line.
A: The default function of the module is power detection. It cannot detect pulse or instantaneous power. You need to change the C9 capacitor to a small capacitor value to detect pulse and instantaneous power. Generally, the higher the instantaneous requirements, the C9 capacitor should be small enough.
Q: I bought 3 modules, but the output voltage of the same test condition is different. Is this normal?
A: There are individual differences between the modules. The actual measured details are typical data, and the specific parameters have been measured.
Q: Why does the low-frequency signal input not respond?
A: The default input signal of the module is greater than 500MHz. If a low-frequency signal is needed, the balun is removed and L1 and L2 are used for matching. R2 and C7 can form a low-pass filter.
